No notes, no conjugation tables. Write every answer in full — including accents, which count. For Q1 and Q2 the reason is worth as much as the form: if you can't name the trigger, you guessed. Solutions are hidden behind each question.

7Commands with pronouns10 pts

Give the affirmative command, replacing the nouns with pronouns, then its negative. 2 pts each (1 + 1).

Lose the point for a missing accent on the affirmative form — dámelo, explíquenosla, siéntense, escribámosela all need one to keep the stress where it was. In (d) the -s of escribamos drops before se; in (e) the -d of levantad drops before os.

10Opinion paragraph12 pts
Instrucciones

Escribe un párrafo de 120 a 150 palabras en el que respondas a la pregunta: ¿Deberían las escuelas prohibir los teléfonos móviles durante la jornada escolar? Usa por lo menos cinco verbos en subjuntivo, una oración con si hipotética (si + imperfecto de subjuntivo → condicional) y una conjunción que siempre exige el subjuntivo (para que, a menos que, en caso de que…).

Tu párrafo — 15 minutos

Model answer and scoring
Respuesta modelo

Note prohíban (like prohíbo), recojan (g → j) and the indicative after es verdad que.

PtsWhat earns it
5Five correct subjunctives, 1 pt each (right tense and spelling, justified by a trigger).
2A correct hypothetical si clause (imperfect subjunctive + conditional).
2A correct always-subjunctive conjunction.
3Clear position, a reason, a concession or counterpoint, and a closing sentence; 120–150 words.

Scoring

ScoreWhere you are
90–100You control the subjunctive — the single biggest grammar lever on the free-response rubrics. Move on to Unit 5 and keep using these structures on purpose in every essay and conversation.
75–89Triggers are right but forms leak — usually accents (entregáramos, dámelo) or the -ir nosotros change. Run the present-subjunctive drill and the command drill to a streak of 15.
60–74The mood decision is shaky. Re-read WEIRDO and adverbial clauses, then redo Q1–Q4 before looking at the solutions again.
< 60Start from Section 1, and make sure the present indicative yo forms from Unit 2 are automatic — the subjunctive is built on them.
Where the points usually go

Using the subjunctive after affirmative creer/pensar or es verdad (Q1); the future after cuando (Q4); forgetting that both subordinate verbs shift in a sequence-of-tenses rewrite (Q5c); *si llueva or *si tendría (Q6); dropping the written accent on commands with attached pronouns (Q7, Q9-10); and writing a paragraph with five subjunctives that all hang off es importante que — variety of triggers is what reads as control.
